I was to do this review couple of days back but i am glad i waited till today, coz now i am writing this basis two meals, a lunch and a dinner and after tasting both thier continental and indian offerings.
Villa shanti is the kind of place most of us dream of owning (beside ofcorse a shack by the sea:) ), it is situated in one by quiet bylanes of the french side of town. We read about this resturant in the tripadvisor review and thought of trying it for lunch on sunday. Once we reached the place it was love at first sight ...the resturant is actually a coutyard of a villa (which is now a functioning hotel by the same name) and is done in all white. The space is cozy, i think not more than 30-40 ppl max and has the best blend of homestyle yet chic decor. ( will upload the pics later, not able to transfer from the camera)
Now the best part...food...simply heaven. The choice is not too extensive (5-6 meat & polutry dishes and 6-7 fish / sea food dishes) but most of them taste out of the world. Day one we tried continental, husband tried the orange chicken course and I went for prawns with safforn rice (best rice ever ...just the right mix of garlic butter and herb...heaven !!!) Day two we had papaya salad, butter chicken garlic naan and jeera rice. Butter chicken was perfect, reminded us of some of the best butter chicken we have had in delhi, naan was good, rice as always was out this world. I wonder how they get the right texture and fluffiness. If i really have to nitpick papaya salad was slightly below expectation ( and i am comparing here to ones we have had in bangkok..may be wrong comparision) ..but over all such an amazing meal that we polished off every grain of rice & last drop of gravy even though we both were bursting at our seams.
A must try place in pondy ...if you there for even one meal, try this you 'll not be disappointed.
